25 Jun Breaking from WCME News 9: Brosnan Resigns From Brunswick Police

Brunswick police chief Richard Rizzo has issued a news release indicating that Garrett Brosnan, the 25-year-old officer arrested this week by federal authorities has now resigned from the force. No other comment from the chief for now, but he says he will be available for questions Monday morning.

Brosnan, who lives in Bath, has been charged with sending photos of his genitals to an undercover agent he believed to be a 13-year-old girl, and if ultimately convicted, faces up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine. For now, Brosnan is free on ten thousand dollar unsecured bail with the stipulation that he live with his parents and avoid contact with anyone under the age of 18.

One unknown: Whether an internal investigation of Brosnan launched by Brunswick police will continue now that he has left the force.
