From WCME News 9: One Dead in Spectacular Collision on I-295 in Freeport /from-wcme-news-9-one-dead-in-spectacular-collision-on-i-295-in-freeport/ /from-wcme-news-9-one-dead-in-spectacular-collision-on-i-295-in-freeport/#respond Sat, 14 Jan 2017 22:54:19 +0000 /?p=17746 It turns out that a man from Canaan hauling milk in his tanker truck died instantly today when his truck collided with a car on Interstate 295 in Freeport. The victim is 70-year-old Richard Clark, who maneuvered his truck to avoid crushing a car that had spun out of control in front of him. Both vehicles struck the median guardrail and Clark’s tanker overturned, coming to rest in the median. The driver of the car–27-year-old Ashley Williams of Woolwich, was taken to Maine Medical Center with minor injuries.

Thousands of gallons of milk spilled from the tanker as it lay on its side. Troopers continue to investigate the crash and have not determined why Williams lost control of her car, which was demolished. Both northbound and southbound lanes were reduced to one lane during the six hours that the crash was investigated.

Sentence Is Passed In Bath Shooting Death /sentence-is-passed-in-bath-shooting-death/ /sentence-is-passed-in-bath-shooting-death/#respond Mon, 21 Nov 2016 20:51:51 +0000 /?p=17696 From WCME News 9:

Emotional moments today at the courthouse in
West Bath, where 24-year-old Dylan Grubbs of Thomaston was sentenced to five years in prison–with half of the time–or two and a half years suspended. The sentence followed a plea of guilty from Grubbs, who had initially been charged with manslaughter, to a lesser count of domestic violence with reckless use of a firearm, in last year’s shooting death of his fiance, 22-year-old Chelsea Jones as she sat in their vehicle in the parking lot of Shaw’s supermarket in Bath.

Grubbs was showing a 9mm Taurus handgun to a prospective buyer when the gun accidentally went off–resulting in a gunshot wound to the woman.

Keith Jones, the father of the woman, tells WCME News 9 that he wants the case to be a lesson to all of us about the importance of gun safety.
