King vs. Lepage? /king-vs-lepage/ /king-vs-lepage/#respond Sun, 23 Jul 2017 01:12:23 +0000 /?p=17904
A seismic and passion-fueled U-S Senate race may be brewing in Maine in 2018.

Governor LePage is thinking again about challenging Brunswick’s independent incumbent and one-time Democrat Angus King.

A potential race sized up by WCME political analyst and former Maine House speaker John Richardson on today’s edition of WCME’s weekly point-counterpoint face-off “LePage and Richardson.”

If you missed it, no problem. You can hear it here.

LePage and Richardson July 8 (without LePage) /lepage-and-richardson-july-8-without-lepage/ /lepage-and-richardson-july-8-without-lepage/#respond Sat, 08 Jul 2017 21:26:29 +0000 /?p=17893 Every Saturday at Noon and 5PM, WCME electronically brings together Governor LePage and a political adversary–John Richardson, a former Democratic speaker of the Maine House and former Brunswick town councilor.

Today, since there was no weekly message from the governor, John Richardson flew solo and issued a harsh indictment of LePage’s remarks this week critical of the news media.

And in the midst of those remarks, we gave you a taste of LePage. If you missed it, or even if you didn’t, it’s right here.

LePage and Richardson on the Partial State Government Shutdown /lepage-and-richardson-on-the-partial-state-government-shutdown/ /lepage-and-richardson-on-the-partial-state-government-shutdown/#respond Sat, 01 Jul 2017 21:48:55 +0000 /?p=17882 At WCME, we call it what it REALLY is–not a SHUTDOWN–because it isn’t–not with the state police still on the job–where we want them–and not as long as the state parks are open–which they are this holiday weekend.

Two very different views of what’s going on. The governor’s weekly radio message recorded pre-shutdown and some late-breaking reaction from Brunswick’s John Richardson–a former Democratic speaker of the Maine House.

These two come together every Saturday at High Noon and again at 5 in the afternoon on WCME on a program ingeniously named “LePage and Richardson.”

Jim Bleikamp on Perzanoski Pay Raise /jim-bleikamp-on-perzanoski-pay-raise/ /jim-bleikamp-on-perzanoski-pay-raise/#respond Thu, 22 Jun 2017 14:36:20 +0000 /?p=17865 Jim Bleikamp here.

Following a two-hour closed session and a controversy-filled year in which the Brunswick school board settled a bullying lawsuit for $125,000, the board has now awarded a two percent pay raise to school superintendent Paul Perzanoski, who is already salaried at $139.922.

I believe this pay raise is a move both outrageous and arrogant, and I explained why on the Thursday Midcoast Morning Buzz.

If you have another point of view, you are welcome to talk about it on our Facebook page at Radio 9 WCME. And if you’d like to air an alternative point of view on WCME, feel free to contact us at [email protected].

Smart New Yorkers Vacation in Maine /smart-new-yorkers-vacation-in-maine/ /smart-new-yorkers-vacation-in-maine/#respond Thu, 01 Jun 2017 22:40:41 +0000 /?p=17842 We’re fortunate at WCME to have a bond with some talented folk at the nation’s classiest all-news station–WCBS NewsRadio 880 in New York. WCBS afternoon news anchor Steve Scott is a frequent Maine visitor and braved some heavy rain today to visit us at Fort Andross. We’re better because he did. Steve is on the right. WCME’s Jim Bleikamp is on the left.

And it’s time to reveal the face behind the majestic voice most often heard on WCME. The best-looking among us. And a very generous lover of the
Maine outdoors and climber of Mt. Katahdin, who in his spare time anchors the morning news at WCBS. The man’s name is Wayne Cabot. Some samples of his radio adventures are just below the picture.

The Voices of the Brunswick School Bullying Lawsuit /the-voices-of-the-brunswick-school-bullying-lawsuit/ /the-voices-of-the-brunswick-school-bullying-lawsuit/#respond Tue, 30 May 2017 12:41:34 +0000 /?p=17831
Now the actual voices are heard.

A new nationally-distributed podcast from the San Francisco-based Center for Investigative Reporting contains never-previously-heard deposition testimony from the recently settled lawsuit in Brunswick in which former junior high school student Chaz Wing charged that he had been bullied and raped in a school bathroom.

Some excerpts were heard on the Tuesday WCME Midcoast Morning Buzz and all day long on News 9 from Radio 9 WCME.
