In Phippsburg, a man is in custody after a standoff with Sagadahoc County sheriff’s deputies and Bath police lasting over seven hours and not ending until early this morning. 54-year-old Ruben Foster is charged with two felony counts of criminal threatening with a firearm at 34 Rock Ledge Drive, where he is said to have threatened to kill his mother and sister, who managed to flee and report the incident.

Authorities were able to make phone contact with Foster and talked with him for several hours prior to his ultimate surrender. More charges are likely. Foster was taken first to Midcoast Hospital for an evaluation and then to the regional jail in Wiscasset. He’ll be arraigned on Wednesday.
